BBBoiler Welcomes BRAGKEN - Moscow-based producers duo formed in 2019 by Ivan Bragin and his brother Fedor. BRAGKEN’s approach blurs the lines between Melodic Techno, Progressive House, Indie Dance and provides a very personal vision of electronic music. Each track has its own unique storytelling through the deep atmosphere of mesmerising melodies and original sounds. Listen to this special 1-hour guestmix created by BRAGKEN for BBBoiler and read more about the artists' background.
About BRAGKEN: Hi everyone! We are BRAGKEN, a producer duo based in Moscow, Russia. We are brothers Ivan and Fedor and we’ve been doing music through most of our lives. Currently, we work as producers as well, we got our own production centre and studio where we create music for different artists and for our own projects. Thank you for having us in your show, it’s a pleasure to share our music with new people.
Blanka Barbara: According to Beatport, you’ve started releasing music in 2019 in melodic techno style. However, your recent productions belong to different genres like indie dance and progressive house. Is that the direction for you moving forward? Do you have a specific genre you associate with musically?
BRAGKEN: Yes, that’s right, our first releases were made in melodic techno, but from the very beginning it wasn’t a specific direction. We work in different genres like Melodic Techno, Indie Dance, Progressive House and our music blurs the lines between styles. And that’s the main idea of the project to create our own BRAGKEN’s style.
BB: Why did you start producing electronic music and how is it for you to work together as brothers?
Ivan: Electronic music is an infinite field for sound design. You can work and create in different genres, combine various cultures and work with various instruments and vocalists. I think that electronic music will continue to evolve, so it’s a huge opportunity for us to grow as producers too and to experiment with our musical ideas.
Fedor: We are brothers, we grew up together, so I suppose there is no one who can understand each other better than we do. We cherish the same things, of course, we got our own musical taste and ideas, but they perfectly complement each other. Also, we do really like an atmosphere of techno gigs and working with the live energy from the audience. So I think we are a great team.
BB: Did you have any musical idols when you were growing up?
I: Sure, I’ve listened to all kinds of music, I am a classical-jazz piano player and graduated from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, so my greatest inspiration is from Johann Sebastian Bach, Chick Corea, Erik Satie and if we are talking about electronic music it was Stephan Bodzin.
F: For me, I think it’s gonna be Sergei Rachmaninoff, Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone and also Stephan Bodzin.
BB: What was your favourite track of yours released in 2020? Where did you find inspiration to create it and what defines your sound?
B: For now, it’s gonna be WOLFRAM. Honestly, we didn’t have any specific inspiration for that track, and usually, it’s a constant desire to create something new, you know. This track is pretty close to calling it «our sound», It has a tight groove, pushy kick and the whole track has a driving movement.
BB: You are collaborating quite often with other producers. Who would your dream collab be with?
B: We are open to collaborations, cuz it’s always about the new experience. We would like to work with WhoMadeWho and Camelphat, they are very unique and creative producers.
BB: What hopes, dreams and goals do you have for 2021 and further?
B: We really hope that this year we will be able to travel more and share our music with people all over the world, to perform at big festivals and events. And of course, another big dream is to make an album, actually, we got plenty of material but we are looking for the right label to work in this direction. To keep moving, keep creating something new.
